In many venues, several devices control the same zone throughout the day. When that's the case, a change made on one device can interrupt the music already playing for everyone in that space.
Zone locking prevents this — once a zone is locked, its playback settings stay fixed, so the music keeps running as intended and can't be changed by accident from another device.
